Regular Season | September -Oct 1st 2017 | Outlook:

Players
(+) Kovalchuk's season has started off great for his first season back in the NHL. Pre-Season we seen the rink rust from him, but he's been able to put that all behind him and is averaging a point a game in 12 games this season.
(+) The offense on this teams currently ranked 7th overall in the NHL. Huge eyebrow raiser considering expectations weren't high this season.
(-) As expected, the defensive core right now is at best average. We expected this seeing as we do not have a true chip blue liner here. Closest thing to a veteran would be Luke Scene or Michael Stone. Both considered average to below average in the NHL core of Defenseman.
(Overall) All and all we have defied expectations from the season. Sure only 12 games into the stretch, but on the positive side early which is great.

Goalies
(-) Steve Mason has struggled in the beginning of this season. From his outstanding pre-season to now. Some may say it's due to the defensive core in front of him. Which if you take the stats. He's faced 256 shots in 8 games allowing 28 goals. This is an average of 32 shots a game and 3.5 goals a game. I leave that up to you.
(+) Al Montoya however is looking as sharp as he was in his two appearances in the pre-season. He's had the approval of the GM and Head coach as he's had 4 starts this season winning 3/4 of the games. He has faced 96 shots in 4 games and has only allowed 8 goals (average of 2 goals a game). Montoya has also the only recorded shut out on the team. He's currently got a GAA of 2.00 and a save percentage of .907. Showing he may be worthy of the fight for the starting role.
(Overall) Coaches and the GM have much faith in both goalies saying "They're the core of this team". Hopefully going forward Steve Mason can up his game to what we expect from him.
