1958-1959 Season Review

Montreal and St. Louis win their divisions but Philly wins its second cup defeating St. Louis.

Toronto's Kluka leads in goals and Montreal's Nichols leads in points.

St. Pierre and Kluka are now 2nd and 3rd in all-time scoring behind William Scholz.

Gallaher of Cleveland wins his 4th Goalie of the year award.

Curtis Butz of St. Louis sets a rookie scoring record at 74 points.

LA Sports Arena GM Bill Nicholas threatens the NHL to get an expansion team. He says if he doesn't have a team by 1961 he'll join the WHL. He is implying he will seek to turn that league into a competing pro-league.

LA and San Francisco already have NFL and MLB teams and there are rumours Minneapolis's NBA team the Lakers will go to LA. I'm sure if they do they'll change their name, there's no lakes in LA.

LA and SF are the largest cities in the US without NHL teams. Both have long histories (though off and on) with Hockey dating to the 30's. California is rich.

Based on real events.

VOTE:
YES - Admit LA into the NHL in 1961. We want the LA market badly and our tv deal with CBS is expiring soon.

Option if YES - admit San Francisco with them

NO - No one pressures us into expansion. We'll wait for a more compliant owner to come forward. Plus travel would be atrocious with St. Louis as the closest team.
