For what its worth a bad team in the 19th century just doesn't compare to having a really bad team in the modern age.
A lot of those stats are probably because the game had to have somebody pitch. If you have Old Hoss Radbourn go 0-42 then you have a really bad team.
In those days they might just have a position player pitch or even better just sign a guy from a local team.
