Montreal Canadiens (18-7-1) at Calgary Flames (14-9-3)

Montreal carry on with their road trip needing to win the final 2 games to get a split and to keep in the race for 1st in the East. Montreal now find themselves in 2nd behind the Bruins. The Bruins have 39 points in 27 games while Montreal has 37 with 26 games. Columbus in 5 back of Montreal but has played 24 games. Montreal ranks 25th with 2.31 goals per game and so far just 2 in 2 games on this road trip has heightened the attention on the lack of scoring. Montreal is ranked 2nd with just 1.92 goals against per game.

C Ed Parks was signed for 3 years as a free agent to give Montreal some veteran leadership and experience after the surprize retirement of Zach Berry. Born in Elgin, IL the 29 year old two way player is a strong defensive player. Parks is centering the 3rd line and plays the role of shadow and set up man. In his 4th season in the NHL,he played 3 years prior with the Islanders. This season he has 0 goals and 8 assists for 8 points with 8 PIMs. For his career he has 49 goals and 76 assists for 125 points with 134 PIMs in 272 career games.

The Flames are currently in 6th spot in the West, with 31 points. They trail the West leading Jets by 4 points. Calgary currently is in the middle of the pack for goal scoring. They average 2.65 goals per game which ranks them 16th. They allow an average of 2.58 goals per game and that ranks them 16th as well.

The Flames start G Dennis Johansen. The 30 year old has 12 wins with a 2.16 GAA and a .927 save % in 20 games. Last year he had 39 wins with a 2.78 GAA and a .905 save % in 65 games. Montreal starts G Wilf Nestor, he has 15 wins with a 1.79 GAA and a .932 save % in 21 games.

The first half of the 1st period, Montreal dominated out shooting Calgary 7-1 but Calgary scored on their 2nd shot of the period at 11:49 when RD Bartolo Trujillo got his 6th on the PP. Montreal goes down 2-0 seconds later when LW Roger Glass gets his 3rd of the year at 12:15. Calgary have 2 goals on just 3 shots. Calgary goes up 3-0 at 19:55 of the 1st when RW Woodrow Custer gets his 7th on the PP. Montreal out shot Calgary 11-9 but are down 3-0.

Montreal make it 3-1 at 7:26 of the 2nd when RW Cal Couling gets his 1st as a Hab. Montreal gets back to within 1 at 13:08 when RW Josef Kramar gets his 7th of the season. Calgary out shot Montreal 7-6 in the 2nd period.

Calgary takes a 4-2 lead at 10:53 of the 3rd period as LW Steven Spring gets his 15th of the year on the PP. The shots in the 3rd were 18-8 for Calgary and 34-25 for the game. Montreal was 0 for 5 on the PP and Calgary took advantage of their chances as they were 3 for 7.

Calgary's Roger Glass was the 1st star with his 1 goal. The 18 year old from Edmonton, AB now has 3 goals and 7 points with 8 PIMs in 27 games this year. The 1982 RDS Cup Winner, (QMJHL Rookie of the Year) is playing in his rookie season in the NHL. He had a career high of 42 goals in the 1981-82 season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL.
