Colorado Avalanche (9-5-3) at Montreal Canadiens (14-4-1)

Montreal are trying to get back on track, struggling the last 4-5 games and really could use a win. Boston is just 3 points back now as each team has played 19 games and Columbus is 5 back with 2 games in hand. Montreal really could use some help on the PP, they are ranked 27th overall with just a 8.0 % success rate. The PK on the other hand is fantastic, we kill penalties at a rate of 92.0% which ranks 2nd in the NHL.

Montreal's RW Samuel Hebert is from Norfolk County, ON. The 21 year old is a two way forward that the scouts feel is a blue chip prospect. He is a fantastic skater and currently plays on the 1st line as a set up man, and shadow. Hebert was originally selected 161st overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He was later traded to Montreal on February 12th, 1982 for RW J B Brooks. This season in 19 games he has 5 goals and 11 points with 10 PIMs. For his career, in 155 NHL games he has 32 goals and 92 points with 104 PIMs.

The Avalanche are currently in 8th spot in the Western Conference with 21 points. Colorado is strong on both special teams, they rank 7th on the PP with a 20.0% success rate while being ranked 9th on the PK with a 88.7% kill rate.

Colorado will start G Aatos Lax, he has 6 wins with a 2.53 GAA and a .906 save % in 14 games. Last season he had 27 wins with a 2.82 GAA and a .922 save %. Montreal goes with G Wilf Nestor, he has 12 wins with a 1.73 GAA and a .934 save % in 16 games.

Montreal gets the early lead, RW Ben Archer gets a PP goal at 2:50 of the 1st, his 2nd of the year to make it 1-0. Colorado ties it up 1-1 at 8:24 when C Tomas Martinec gets his 3rd of the year. The shots were 11-6 in favor of Colorado in the 1st.

Their is no scoring in the 2nd period, Colorado out shoots Montreal 6-2 in a tight period. For the 2nd straight game Montreal goes into a 3rd period in a 1-1 tie. Montreal starts the 3rd with a 1:03 of PP time.

Montreal goes up 2-1 at 5:14 of the 3rd when LD Lance Lambright gets his 2nd of the season. About 5 minutes into the 3rd, RW Samuel Fleury left the game with a head injury. Montreal goes up 3-1 at 7:16 when LD Lance Lambright gets his 2nd of the night. Colorado gets it back to 3-2 at 11:22 when RW Bruce Ballard gets his 4th of the season. Montreal hangs on for the win. Colorado out shot Montreal 9-3 in the 3rd, and 26-11 in the game. Colorado was 0 for 4 on the PP Montreal was 1 for 3.

Montreal's LD Lance Lambright was the 1st star, he had 2 goals. The 29 year old now has 3 goals and 5 points in 15 games with 6 PIMs. Last season he had 5 goals and 23 points with 36 PIMs in 77 games with Montreal.

Montreal Canadiens announce that RW Samuel Fleury will miss up to 3 weeks with a Grade I Concussion. The 20 year old has 1 goal and 4 points with 31 PIMs in 19 games. Last year he had 0 goals and 1 assist with 24 PIMs in 26 games with Montreal.

The Canadiens have promoted RW Adrian Andersson from the AHL to replace Fleury. The 20 year old has 12 goals and 24 points in 16 games this year. Last year he had 42 goals and 79 points with 159 PIMs in 67 games with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL.

Pittsburgh Penguins C Zvi Zeiger had a goal in a 3-1 win over the Panthers. The 30 year old now has 9 goals and 14 points in 18 games. Last year he had 22 goals and 56 points in 74 games with the Penguins.

Tampa Bay Lightning RW Mark Padfield is listed day to day with a bruised knee. The 33 year old has 10 goals and 18 points in 17 games. Last year he had 41 goals and 65 points in 70 games with Tampa.
