How does negative development work in an historic league (OOTP X)?

It sure is hard to get answers to questions like this. Anyway ...

A guy is still recalcing annually on real life stats.

He starts getting hammered by negative development, even though he has good real life stats seasons coming up.

Season ends, he recalcs great, then the negative development sets in again.

Season ends, he recalcs great again ...

The question ...

Once a guy is tagged with negative development, is that something that will always recur each year, or is it possible after one or multiple seasons experiencing negative development, after yet another good (or not so good) recalc, it can stop?

My experience has been it has never stopped. I've had numerous players (Johnny Mize and Red Rolfe particularly come to mind) who have started experiencing in-season negative development in their early 30's and then continued to experience it each successive season despite several more years of great real life stats and great recalcs.

Seems to me there have been the odd instance in our OOTP X league where a guy stopped experiencing negative development, though I can’t point to a player I’ve had.

Anyone here know how it actually works?
