Post Career ending injury!!

Ouch! I had a pitcher blow a rotator cuff and suffer a career ending injury. Other than the fact that I was counting on this guy as a #2 or #3 starter the next several years, the crappy thing is that he is signed for something like $1.3 million per year for the next 4 years.

I'm not sure I understand the ramifications of cutting him and baically paying him off vs. just keeping him around on the dl until the contract ends. If I cut him this year and take the loss, would that increase my budget for free agents next year? What do you folks normally do in these situations?

I need one of those insurance policies that the Reds took out on Jose Rijo way back when...when he got hurt, the insurance company made good the salary. Will we see this in OOTP4?
