The New Bill James Historical Abstract, published circa 2001, is exactly what the name says, a historical abstract, not just active players. Now if you're referring to the historical abstract James published prior to the one in 2001, good luck finding that. James' last abstracts were published during the 1980s and all out of print as far as I know.
