Free Agency: The Beginning . .

I am going to post the first five days of free agency here . . .

Day 1 : 1/28 Notable Signings

NONE

Day 2 : 1/29 Notable Signings

New York (N) : CF Carlos Beltran, 10,237,200, for 7 years.
-Looks at thought
New York
has finally shore up there center field problems. . . probably the ticket out of town for Mike Cameron.
Chicago (N) : P Matt Clement, 10,287,000 per year, for 4 years
-Last year Clement was traded away to lace>Pittsburghlace> for New York (N) : CF Carlos Beltran, 10,237,200, for 7 years.

Milwaukee: C Bengie Molina, 2,985,500 per year, for 4 years
-Molina is a great defensive catcher and will hit .250-.270 range which is a lot better than what the Brewer catchers have hit in the past.
Boston : C A.J. Pierzynski, 2,568,200 per year, for 3 years.
-Interesting, I wonder if this means that the Red Sox are trading away Jason Varitek?
TampaBay : SS Jose Hernandez, 1,368,000 per year, for 4 years.
Pittsburgh : 2B Tony Graffanino, 820,800 per year, for 4 years.
Cleveland : P Alan Embree, 2,836,300 per year, for 5 years.
Florida : C Dan Wilson, 477,300 per year, for 1 year.
Oakland : CF Jermaine Dye, 433,200 per year, for 2 years.
-Pretty good deal for a guy like Dye who could provide some pop of the bench.

Day 3 : 1/30 Notable Signings

Moises Alou was claimed off waivers by LA and signed.
-Thank god I got this contract off of my hands. I was happy that I didn’t have to release him outright.
Atlanta : SP Tomo Ohka. 10,503,500, for 6 years.
-I am thinking that this might be a little too much money for an above average starting pitcher.
Florida : P Kevin Millwood, 7,526,600 per year, for 5 years.>>
-Looks like Florida may be gearing up for another world series run? Florida’s rotation is really starting to look like one of the most dominant in the league.
San Diego : P Russ Ortiz, 6,582,300 per year, for 3 years.
-San Diego has a pretty good deal here, as they also have a decent rotation 1-5 now.
Texas : P John Smoltz, 5,869,300, for 3 years
-I don’t know why Texas is spending this much money on a closer when they should first be improving their rotation
New York (A) : 2B Placido Polanco, 3,329,400 per year, for 3 years.

Arizona : 1B Randall Simon, 2,713,200 per year, for 3 years.

TampaBay: 3B Russell Branyan, 2,599,000 per year, for 3 years.
Atlanta : 1B John Olerud, 1,017,000 per year, for 3 years.

Day 4 : 2/1 Notable Signings

Claimed SP Dewon Brazelton off of waivers and assigned him to AAA.
-Low risk claim for us. He could be a decent mop up pitcher in the future.
Claimed 3B Aaron Baldris off of waivers and assigned him to AAA.
-A bluechip prospect. He is a 3.5 star player and could have a very bright future in our orginization.
Claimed P Shea Douglass off of waivers and assigned him to AAA.
-He is an average middle relief prospect and will be good for us in the future.
San Francisco : P Wilson Alvarez, 6,462,000 per year, for 5 years.
-Wilson had a good comeback year last year but at 34 I don’t know how wise it was to sign him to a five year contract

Los Angeles : 3B Troy Glaus, 6,265,200 per year, for 3 years.
-With the loss of Adrian Beltre, they get a good offensive 3B to replace him but can he stay healthy?
Seattle : 3B Aramis Ramirez, 1,217,700 per year, for 4 years.
-If I had the money Ramirez would have been the first person on my list, but . . .
Oakland : DH Brad Fullmer, 3,013,200 per year, for 4 years.
Minnesota : P Paul Wilson, 996,400 per year, for 4 years.

Day 5 : 2/2 Notable Signings

Los Angeles : RF Richard Hidalgo, 7,558,300 per year, for 4 years.
-Seems like quite a bit of money for a washed up Outfielder.
Toronto : RF Ellis Burks, 971,800 per year, for 2 years.
San Francisco : RF Ricky Ledee, 870,100 per year, for 3 years.
Arizona : CF Tom Goodwin, 626,300 per year, for 4 years.
Boston : CF Chris Singleton, 638,400 per year, for 4 years.
New York (N) : C Gregg Zaun, 484,000 per year, for 2 years.
Pittsburgh : P Ryan Snare, 460,000 per year, for 3 years.
Minnesota : P Mickey Callaway, 1,242,600 per year, for 3 years.
