xTIBBETTS WINS U.S. AMATEUR GOLF TITLE
Former Pepperdine golfer Scott xTibbetts won the US Amateur golf title by defeating E Harvie Ward Jr in the 36 hole finals on Sunday. xTibbetts clinched his victory with a birdie on the 34th hole to go up by 3 holes with just 2 to play. Prior to the final 9 it was an extremely close match. In the morning round neither golfer ever led by more than one hole and it was all even after the first 18. The afternoon round started much like the morning and 9 holes in the two golfers were still deadlocked.
However, things fell apart for Ward on the 10th hole when he bogeyed it while xTibbetts managed a par. xTibbetts took the first 2 hole lead of the finals when he parred the 11th while Ward had his second straight bogey.
The victory earns xTibbetts an invitation to all 4 major professional tournaments next year and, should he choose to turn pro, an automatic PGA tour card. xTibbetts has enjoyed some real success in the PGA events he has competed in as an amateur this season. His best showing was a second place tie at the Phoenix Open. He also finished 4th in Memphis.
