4/16 DET @ WSH: loss 9-11 Bud Ulrich gave up 7R (4ER) in 6.1 IP. Our three team errors really hurt Ulrich's start. The loss went to Alex Footwangler (0-1, 3.86) who gave up 2R in the 8th. Joe Homic also had a rough start giving up 10 walks and 7R in 3IP. But the win went to Salvatore King (1-0, 9.00) who gave up 1R in 1IP. Top WSH batters were Dean Parente (3 for 6, 2R, 2RBI, 1HR, 1SB), 3B/RF playing 1B Chris Anderson (2 for 3, 1R, 2RBI, 2BB, 1DBL) & CF Peter Overton (3 for 4, 1R, 3RBI, 1BB, 1DBL). For us, Luther Ormiston got POG despite the loss going 2 for 4, 1R, 6RBI, 1BB, 1Grand Slam.

4/17 DET @ WSH: loss 2-10 Bob Guilderson (0-2, 11.25) had another rough start giving up 9R in 5IP. The win went to Gampy Slater (2-1, 5.73) who gave up 2R in a CG win. Just about everyone hit well for WSH (18 total hits - only 4 for us). Their 2B Dean Parente got POG for going 3 for 4, 3R, 2RBI, 1BB, 1DBL, 1HR. For us, Luther Ormiston and Rik the Greek Kaladimos both hit solo HRs for their only hits of the game.

4/18 DET @ NYY: WIN 7-0 Hal Andrew (2-1, 3.13) pitched a 6 hit shut out for the CG win and POG. Chief Harrington (1-2, 4.05) also went the distance but gave up 7R for the loss. RF Jimmy Ditty was the top Yank batter going 2 for 4, 1DBL. For us, David Castaneda went 4 for 5, 3R, 2RBI, 1DBL. Carl Sandoz went 3 for 5, 1R, 2RBI, 2DBL. Ray Kress went 2 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1SB.

4/19 DET @ NYY: WIN 4-3 Billy Crowell (4-0, 2.36) got the win giving up 3R in 7.1IP. Lloyd Wyman pitched a scoreless 9th for a save. Carpenter Erickson (1-3, 5.27) gave up 4R in 7.2IP for the loss. RF Jimmy Ditty was once again top hitter for NY going 3 for 4, 1RBI, 1DBL. For us, Carl Sandoz got POG going 3 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 2DBL.

CLE top batter was SS Wilbur Taylor going 2 for 4, 1R, 1TRPL. For us, Bud Moore went 2 for 3, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR.

4/24 CLE @ DET: loss 0-6 We had two shutouts going on until CLE scored 1 in the 8th followed by 5 in the 9th. Billy Crowell (4-1, 3.14) gave up 6R in 8.2IP for his first loss of the year. Howie Leosh (2-2, 5.58) got the win and POG for piching 8 shutout innings. John Ashley held in the 9th to complete the shutout. Top hitter today was CLE CF William Morgan who went 4 for 5, 1R. For us, Bud Moore went 2 for 4.

4/25 DET @ BOS: loss 5-6 We out hit BOS 13 to 7 but they got the game winning run in the 11th. Bud Ulrich gave up 4R in 7.2IP. But the loss went to Mike Downey (0-1, 10.80) who was unable to hold in the 11th. Eric Williams gave up 5R in 8IP. The win went to Billy Hyberg who pitched a scoreless 10th & 11th. RF Ben Hargey (POG), 3B Tequila Allen, 1B Bobby Johnson all homered for Boston. For us, Bud Ulrich went 2 for 3, 1RBI (currently batting .438), Ray Kress went 3 for 4, 1R, 1BB. Bud Moore went 2 for 4, 1R, 2RBI, 1BB, 1DBL. Matt Perly hit a solo HR for his only hit.

SS Rusky Lutske got POG for the Sox going 3 for 4, 3R, 1RBI, 1BB. C Em Pelto & 2B Skeeter Schaldemose also went 3 for 4 for them. For us, Carl Sandoz went 2 for 3, 1R, 2DBL. Wally Cruce (filling in at 1B) went 2 for 4, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR. Ray Kress also hit a 2R HR with his only hit of the game.

Top BOS batter was 1B Bobby Johnson who went 2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1DBL, 1HR for POG. For us, Ray Kress went 2 for 3, 2R, 2RBI, 1BB, 1HR. Pete Murovic went 2 for 4, 1DBL filling in at catcher. David Castaneda went 2 for 3.

4/28 DET @ BOS: loss 4-11 Ouch, swept in 4 games in Boston. Billy Crowell (4-2, 4.44) had a terrible game giving up 9R in 5.2IP for the loss. Cort Nagel (2-2, 4.66) got the win giving up 4R in 7IP. Every BOS hitter hit well. Tequila Allen got POG going 3 for 5, 1R, 5RBI. For us, Carl Sandoz went 3 for 5, 2R, 1RBI, 1DBL. Luther Ormiston went 2 for 5, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR.

4/29 NYY @ DET: WIN 5-4 Finally an extra inning win. Bud Ulrich gave up 4R in 8IP (this 4 earned runs per game is feeling like a broken record with Bud). The win went to Lloyd Wyman (1-1, 3.68) for pitching a hitless 10th inning. Carpenter Erickson allowed 3R in 8IP but the loss went to closer Daniel Blisit (0-2, 2.84) who gave up 1R in 1.1IP. Top Yank hitters were C Alton Kee (2 for 3, 2RBI, 1BB), RF Jimmy Ditty (3 for 5, 1R), 1B John Wilson 1 for 3, 1R, 2RBI, 1BB, 1HR. For us, Dave Castaneda went 2 for 4, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR for POG. Luther Ormiston went 2 for 5, 1R, 1RBI, 1HR.

4/30 NYY @ DET: WIN 8-2 Bob Guilderson (2-2, 5.46) allowed only 2R in a CG POG win. George Bowers (3-2, 3.77) got the loss giving up 7R (2ER) in 4IP. SS Owen Bastow and 3B Tim Dilworth both hit solo HRs for their only hit. For us, Bob Guilderson went 2 for 4, 1R, 3RBI, 1TRPL. Dave Castaneda went 3 for 5, 1R.

STANDINGS
13-11, 4th in the AL, 6-8 in the last 14

BAD NEWS
-Our trainers claim Matt Perly has bulked up a third year in a row, however, he hasn't yet shown that power at the plate and is hitting a dismal .212.
-Rik the Greek and Rollin Fish are also stinking it up at the plate.
-Our pitching has been inconsistent to say the least.

GOOD NEWS
-After two terrible starts, Bob Guilderson pitched a couple of nice games. Maybe he's not ready to be put out to pasture after all. He did get a break in between those two games. Maybe the occasional skipped start will keep this old dog fresh.
-Ray Kress and Carl Sandoz have been very good at the plate and in the OF.
-David Castaneda had a hot month at the plate.
-4/18 Ray Kess was named Player of the Week hitting .476, 5HR, 12RBI
-4/25 Hal Andrew was named Player of the Week pitching two shutouts while fanning 13 in 18 innings.

TRADE
-We are trading minor league CF/RF Mark Silcox & SP David Esmoris to Brooklyn for 1B Dennis Kitterman. Kitterman will jump right in as the starter at 1B and hit leadoff.

MOVES
-Wally Cruce will be demoted to make room for Kitterman.
