CHICAGO (AP)-It's not all bad news out of Chicago as White Sox third baseman Mike Schmidt was named the American League's Player of the Month for May.

Schmidt, leading the AL with a .377 batting average, hit .424 for the month. He also clouted eight home runs and drove in 24 runs.

"The award is nice, but I'd rather that we were winning as a team," Schmidt said. "There's talent on this team, we need to just put it all together."

Schmidt will most likely be the Sox lone representative on the All-Star team next month.
