perosnally i though the Orioles had a bad hitting SS during that time. Belanger or something like that. Oh well
as for offense overwehling defense as the definition of who get the most playing time, i've noticed that too for all positions. You'll see guys that have dismal range and arm stretght get mroe time because they can hit more. I chalk it up to the new reality of the league
Case in point: the three best offensive teams in the NL finished 1,2,3. The best defensive team in the NL (I'm using pitching as defense as well) finished 4th. Defense and pitching doesnt win a lot of games it seems, you need offense to get you some key wins. Granted this is just an analysis that I have done NO research on, but that's jsut the impression that i've gotten.
