9/1 CHI @ DET: WIN 2-1 We start the month with a 13 inning win. Hal Andrew got POG for giving up only 1R (0ER) in 9IP. The win went to Lloyd Wyman (9-3, 1.77) who held the tie for the final 1.2 innings. Earl Boyd also pitched well giving up only 1R in 8.2IP, but the loss went to John Skoropat (9-14, 5.63). Top Sox batter was 1B Edward Rossi who went 2 for 5, 1R. For us, Dave Castaneda went 3 for 5.

9/3 DET @ WSH: WIN 9-7 Harley Melzer gave up 6R in 6.2IP. Alex Footwangler (3-2, 7.16) closed out the 7th for the win. Lloyd Wyman (18Sv, 1.89) got the save despite giving up a run in the 9th. Van Melbourn gave up 6R in 6IP but the loss went to Robbie Trahan (2-4, 4.43) for giving up 3R (2ER) in the 8th. LF Gordon Grosvenor hit a solo HR with his only hit and 3B Jungle Jim Dunkel hit 2 of them on a 2 for 4, 2R, 2RBI, 1BB day. For us, Rik the Greek Kaladimos got POG for going 2 for 3, 3RBI, 1DBL. Bud Moore went 3 for 5, 2R. Carl Sandoz went 3 for 5, 1R, 1RBI, 1DBL.

9/4 DET @ WSH: loss 3-14 Alan Paule (3-4, 7.36) got a chance go start and got hammered for 8R in 4.2IP. Red Finley (17-9, 2.55) got a CG win giving up 3R. Just about every WSH batter was hot today. C Robert Reed got POG going 3 for 3, 3R, 3RBI, 2BB, 2HR. For us, top batter was Ray Kress going 2 for 4, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR.

9/5 DET @ WSH: loss 3-4 Billy Crowell gave up 4R (2ER) in a CG loss. Raul Velazquez gave up 3R in 7.2IP for POG honors. Cecil Frye (3-4, 5.01) relieved him to complete the 8th for the win. CF Peter Overton was top WSH batter going 2 for 4. For us, Matt Perly went 2 for 4, 1R. Luther Ormiston hit a 2R HR with his only hit.

9/6 DET @ PHI: WIN 6-1 Hal Andrew (19-9, 3.00) gave up only 1R and 4 hits for a CG win and POG. Ellis Weeks (5-8, 4.78) got the loss giving up 6R in 6.2IP. A solo HR from Greg Morris was the biggest A's highlight. For us, Luther Ormiston wetn 2 for 5, 1R, 5RBI, 1TRPL, 1HR. David Castaneda went 2 for 4.

9/7 DET @ PHI: WIN 9-1 Harley Melzer (10-6, 3.53) gave up only 1R (0ER) and 4 hits in a CG win. Denton Stuer (0-5, 6.31) had a 1 run game going into the 8th, but then gave up 8R in the finally two innings for the loss. SS Ace Habermehl was the to A's batter going 1 for 3, 1BB. For us, Bud Moore got POG going 3 for 5, 1R, 6RBI, 1GrandSlam. Rik the Greek went 2 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1SB.

9/8 DET @ PHI: WIN 6-4 Another extra inning win, this one went into the 14th before a solo HR by Matt Perly and a Triple RBI by David Castaneda gave us the final lead. Bob Guilderson gave up 4R (3ER) in 9.1IP. Stan Leveck (4-3, 4.45) got the win for pitching a hitless 13th. Alex Footwangler (7Sv, 7.20) pitched a hitless 14th for the save. Ken Malia pitched the first 7 for PHI giving up 4R. The loss went to ex-Tiger Steven Brown (2-3, 3.38) who has lost a couple to us this year after being grabbed from us off waivers.

9/9 day off

9/10 CLE @ DET: WIN 7-6 Billy Crowell gave up 6R (4ER) in a CG win. George Kauffman gave up 4R in 7IP, but the loss went to closer Frank Depratti who gave up 2R compliments of a 9th inning 2RBI double by Ray Kress. Top CLE batters were CF William Morgan (3 for 5, 1R, 2RBI) and 2B Craig Buchannan (2 for 3). For us, Matt Perly got POG going 2 for 4, 2R, 3RBI, 2HR. Bud Moore hit a solo HR with his only hit. Ray Kress went 2 for 4, 3RBI, 1DBL. Rik the Greek went 2 for 4.

9/11 CLE @ DET: WIN 1-0 Hal Andrew (20-9, 2.91) was awesome pitching a 2 hit CG shut out for the win and POG. Charley Nagel (7-9, 3.49) only gave up 4 hits and 1R in a CG loss. Top batter of the day was Luther Ormiston going 1 for 3, 1BB. The only run of the game was Rollin Fish who was knocked in with a Double by Carl Sandoz.

9/12 CLE @ DET: loss 7-10 Harley Melzer gave up 5R in 7.1IP. The loss went to Lloyd Wyman (9-4, 2.28) who blew the hold in the 9th. Howie Leosh (5-5, 3.04) gave up 7R in 6.1IP, but the win went to Len Banty for pitching a hitless 8th. CLE LF Bill Berry got POG going 2 for 4, 2R, 4RBI, 1BB, 1HR. 3B Emerson Meggs (2 for 4, 2R, 1RBI, 1BB) and C Ted Varner (3 for 5, 2RBI, 1DBL) also hit well. For us, Ray Kress went 3 for 5, 2R. Eric Williams (5-3, 2.48) went the distance but gave up 3R for a loss. C Em Pelto was the top Sox hitter going 2 for 3. For us, Matt Perly went 3 for 3, 2R, 1BB, 2DBL. Luther Ormiston hit a solo HR on his only hit.

9/14 DET @ BOS: loss 4-6 Billy Crowell (25-9) gave up 6R in 7IP for the loss. Sloppy Mosich (19-10, 3.38) got the win givng up 4R in 7IP. 2B Skeeter Schaldemose got POG going 4 for 4, 2R, 2RBI, 1BB, 2DBL, 1TRPL. For us, David Castaneda went 2 for 3 but was hurt his arm making a throw. He'll be day2day for a week or two.

Stretch Bussmann had only given up only 2R in 7IP. But then we hammered Moonshine Allen (1-6, 5.33) for 5R in the 8th. CF Homer Jewell (3 for 4, 2R< 1RBI, 1DBL, 1TRPL), 2B Tony Seats (2 for 4, 2R), SS Rex Seelinger (2 for 4, 2R, 2RBI, 1DBL) all hit well for the Sox. For us, Carlton Affee going POG going 2 for 5, 1R, 3RBI, 2DBL. Bud Moore went 3 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB. Harley Melzer went 2 for 3, 2R, 2RBI.

9/18 DET @ CHI: WIN 3-1 Bob Guilderson (14-10, 4.45) got the win and POG pitching 8 shutout innings. He only allowed 3 hits. Corky Stell (14-10, 3.26) gave up 3R in 8IP for the loss. LF Chester Munch went 2 for 4, 1RBI, 1DBL for the Sox. For us, Tom Hoelscher went 2 for 4.

CF Homer Jewell (2 for 4, 1R, 1RBI), SS Rex Seelinger (2 for 4, 2R, 2RBI, 2DBL) and 3B Donald Medart (2 for 4) were top Sox batters. For us, Matt Perly went 2 for 4, 1R< 2RBI, 1HR. John Degal went 2 for 3, 1BB filling in at catcher.

Cotton Simson (23-11, 2.50) pitched fairly well until the 8th where we slammed him with a 5 run inning. He gave up 7R in a CG loss. 2B Dale Thompsonwas the top StL batter going 2 for 4, 1RBI. For us, Carl Sandoz went 3 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 2DBL. Ray Kress went 1 for 3, 2R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1HR. Pete Murovic hit a pinch hit grand slam earning him POG honors. Ray Kress set the AL single season record with 133 runs. Billy Simson set the AL record for games started with 42.

9/21 StL @ DET: WIN 9-4 Harley Melzer (12-6, 3.74) got a CG win giving up 4R. Eugene Sprecher (16-18, 4.44) had a rough start giving up 9R in 5.2IP. CF Cy Helbig (3 for 4, 2R, 1DBL), C Frank Bowers (2 for 4, 1R, 2RBI, 1DBL, 1HR), and 1B Vince Chipple (2 for 4, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR) all hit well for StL. For us, Wally Cruce got POG filling in at 1B going 2 for 4, 4RBI. Ray Kress went 2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1DBL. Luther Ormiston went 1 for 3, 2R, 2RBI, 2BB. SP Harely Melzer went 2 for 4, 2R and will finish the season hitting .291.

9/22 StL @ DET: WIN 11-4 Bob Guilderson (15-10, 4.43) gave up 4R in a CG win. Buster Davis (5-4, 4.64) gave up 9R in 6.1IP for the loss. Top batter for StL was Frankie Bowers going 2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1DBL. For us, Luther Ormiston went 2 for 4, 2R, 7RBI, 2HR. Bud Moore hit a 2R HR with his only hit. Steven Zucal filled in at SS and hit a solo HR.

FINAL STANDINGS
102-52, #1 overall, 14-5 in September

BAD NEWS
-Billy Crowell has picked a bad time to go into a funk.. 1-3 in his last 4 and that 1 win was due to a ton of run support - not because he pitched well. Hopefully, he'll get pumped up for the World Series.
-Harley Melzer has also been a bit inconsistant lately while Bob Guilderson has been fairly solid. I'm not 100% sure who deserves the spot. Harley is a much better hitter, he hold runners better and is due for a hot streak on the mound. But Bob has looked good lately. I'm leaning towards going with Harley and making Bob the #1 setup guy.

GOOD NEWS
-102 wins and a World Series appearance.
-Our active roster is 100% heathy.
-Ray Kress finished the month (and the year - 146 games) without a single error in LF
-Ray Kress was named Player of the Week on 9/16 for hitting .462 in 26 AB, with 2 HR and 8 RBI.
-Luther Ormiston finshed the month with a lot of heavy hitting and will hopefully ride that momentum in the Series.
-Hal Andrew has been awsome this month. He went 4-0 in 5 starts and gave up no earned runs in that one non-decision. In the last 10 games, he's gotten 7 POG awards. With as hot as he has been, I gotta consider him for the ace spot going into the World Series.

For us, Wally Cruce got POG filling in at 1B going 2 for 4, 4RBI. Ray Kress went 2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1DBL. Luther Ormiston went 1 for 3, 2R, 2RBI, 2BB. SP Harely Melzer went 2 for 4, 2R and will finish the season hitting .291. 9/22 StL @ DET: WIN 11-4 Bob Guilderson (15-10, 4.43) gave up 4R in a CG win. Buster Davis (5-4, 4.64) gave up 9R in 6.1IP for the loss. Top batter for StL was Frankie Bowers going 2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1DBL. For us, Luther Ormiston went 2 for 4, 2R, 7RBI, 2HR. Bud Moore hit a 2R HR with his only hit. Steven Zucal filled in at SS and hit a solo HR. FINAL STANDINGS 102-52, #1 overall, 14-5 in September BAD NEWS -Billy Crowell has picked a bad time to go into a funk.. 1-3 in his last 4 and that 1 win was due to a ton of run support - not because he pitched well. Hopefully, he'll get pumped up for the World Series. -Harley Melzer has also been a bit inconsistant lately while Bob Guilderson has been fairly solid. I'm not 100% sure who deserves the spot. Harley is a much better hitter, he hold runners better and is due for a hot streak on the mound. But Bob has looked good lately. I'm leaning towards going with Harley and making Bob the #1 setup guy. GOOD NEWS -102 wins and a World Series appearance. -Our active roster is 100% heathy. -Ray Kress finished the month (and the year - 146 games) without a single error in LF -Ray Kress was named Player of the Week on 9/16 for hitting .462 in 26 AB, with 2 HR and 8 RBI. -Luther Ormiston finshed the month with a lot of heavy hitting and will hopefully ride that momentum in the Series. -Hal Andrew has been awsome this month. He went 4-0 in 5 starts and gave up no earned runs in that one non-decision. In the last 10 games, he's gotten 7 POG awards.
