Remember there
WILL be roster sets out and probably fairly quickly. And there is no definitive answer yet from the developers whether or not the players will resemble true major leaguers.
For what its worth (which isn't much) I
highly suspect the players will be based at least somewhat on real major leaguers, most games in the baseball genre have always been based slightly on the actual major leaguers when they ship with the same alignment as MLB, there is nothing that would turn players off more to see all of a sudden Tampa (instead of New York) winning every year, especially in a simulation game. As a result they almost have to keep the players somewhat real, just so that the teams keep the correct realitive strengths.
I also wouldn't expect much in the way of a definitive answer from the development team on this, as they run the risk of getting in trouble if they appear to be supporting anyones efforts to create a roster set with real players. I believe (and I'm not a legal expert so this is purely speculation) that real MLB players or players based on 2001 can't officially be a selling point for this game, or they run the risk of being sued for using the MLB players to market the game. But if you buy the game and you just happen to find that Boston has a star starting pitcher named Peter Martin from the Dominican Republic, thats ok, because the games selling point wasn't that the players were based on real life players.
It's just my opinion so I could be wrong.. but I suspect the players might just have a bit of resemblance to real guys... just don't expect much of an "official" confirmation.
