I agree. It really gives him a rotation anchor. His two 20 game winners last year got to 20 more on Great Run Support than Great Pitching. He really needed someone he could count on.
In addition, whether he goes in this direction or not, it give him a reliable hand that allows him to work in one or more of his prospects. *Those* guys are his future aces. Crowell can bridge him there, and if he gets one of those kids broken in, the team is in great shape. If he gets two of them, look out. The offense is set for six years. The rotation has a chance to have a pair of aces for a decade.
