Steve, have you updated to SP2 yet (assuming you have win xp)?

If not, then that may be why you have yet to encounter this issue.

EDIT:

I am wondering if it is a SP2 problem or JUST a direct9.0c issue (although I think SP2 installs direct9.0c).
