I think the following is legal in baseball, how is it done in OOTP?

1. Pinch Hit for the pitcher, using Player "A", at slot #9 in the batting order.
2. Inning ends.
3. Leave Player "A" in the game and put him in (lets say) Center Field. At this point, I believe he would take over the spot in the batting order occupied by the CF he is replacing (lets say slot #3).
4. Put in a new pitcher, at spot #9 in the batting order.

Whenever I try to drag a PH to a new spot in the batting order I am tokd that you can do that after the game has started. Is there another way to make this change happen?

Apologies if it is not actually legal to do this in MLB.
