And those other sports have way more playoff games to televise.
MLB wants those few games it has broadcast in prime time as much as is possible, and thus will stagger the starts so that there'll be a couple of days where there's only one game getting the prime time slot all to itself, rather than having to start one of a day's two games in the late afternoon.
Besides, if Houston or St. Louis had simply gotten its act together it could have finished its series early and had plenty of time off.
