I don't mean to criticize... much

... but the Dark Blues is a fairly lame nickname.

If you want the name to be a color, the Louisville Maroons not only sounds better, but sounds "older" too.

... yep, they just loved maroon in the 1800s... couldn't get enough of it...

Just a suggestion.
