We have this word in the English language. It's called "Please." Comes in handy sometimes.
For instance, the appropriate, civilized way to request a manual update would be something along the lines of, "Steve, could we please have an update on the manual? The last one was on 8/17/04. Given Markus' updates on the patch, we would like an update on the status of the manual."
Then there is the boorish way of doing things, where you command the person to do something even though you have no authority to command the person and the person has no obligation to respond to anything you command.
The "thanks" at the end is hardly adequate to make this a proper message.
