opinions on a trade?
Some background. I'm currently in the 3rd year of my fictional league and my #1 pick in the initial draft is in the final year of his contract (9.8M a year). He's a 30 year old SP (10 ERA, 11 Hits, and 7 HRs). The thing is, I'm pretty much capped at about 64M for my payroll and also have a 28 year old OF'er I need to sign (he hit .355, 26 HR's, 29 SB's, 122 BB's last season) and is currently hitting .384, so he's going to cost at least 8-10M a year.
Anyway July rolled around and I was still several games below .500 so I decided to deal him (the SP), rather than lose him for nothing. So I dealt him to Baltimore (who had a 1 game lead in the east) for 3 minor leaguers and a big league closer. I also traded my closer.
The deal:
BAL gets:
SP - 10-4 2.17 era (10 ERA, 11 Hits) 30 years old
CL - 6 save 2.28 era (4 ERA, 5 HITS) 32 years old
I (phils) get:
SP - 5-2 3.30 era (Good HITS, Brill HRS) 24 years old (rookie year)
CL - 18 Saves 1.47 era (9 ERA, 10 Hits) 26 years old
SP - (AAA) 3-7 5.61 era (Good HITS, Good HRS) 24 years old
2B- batting .255 in A-Ball (good HITS, Good HRS) 19 years old
I don't play with any real house rules, but at the same time I do try to be fair. I don't make a lot of trades, so I'm curious about your thoughts on this deal. Did I take advantage of the A.I (take to much) or was this a fair deal? Was swapping closers too much?
appreciate any comments.
