The is a known issue. You can "cheat" by changinig a player to their cheapest position, the $ difference is usually negligible, EXCEPT if it MR or DH. Then the player becomes much cheaper to resign/arbitrate. I believe Markus said he was actually working on this one in one of this last few posts.
The free agency bidding discovery is certainly interesting, I've never seen that one directly, but I may have experienced it without knowing it at the time. I had a guy who wouldn't talk to me who played about 4 different positions. After he passed me up on the first FA sim, I check him again in the 3rd FA sim and suddenly he would talk to me. I'd never seen a player change their mind during FA bidding before, I wonder if the players position was changed by me or one of the other GMs during the bidding process.
