Sim Report #5

5/17 - 2-1 loss vs New York - Lowell Stang had to leave after 4.1 thanks in part to an hour long rain delay. He allowed just one ER in those 4.1 innings. The bullpen pitched well, but couldn't overcome a Carlos Martinez error. Frank Scull took the loss despite not allowing an earned run. Offensively, we were held to 5 singles, two of which were hit by Martinez.
5/18 - 5-1 loss vs New York - Well, we were swept for the first time this season. Once again, the offense was ho-hum. Skip Burns allowed 4 ER in 8 innings, a decent outing against he Barons and their remarkable offense. Thom led is with 2 hits; a single and a double.
5/19 - Off Day
5/20 - 3-1 loss @ Tennessee - We had 8 hits today, including Tally's 2nd home run of the season. Kearns took the loss despite an excellent outing, allowing 2 ER in 7 innings.
5/21 - 4-0 WIN @ Tennessee - We end our slide despite another bland offensive outing. M-Rod was 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored, and Horizon drove in 2, but we went 7-for-32 as a team. Chris Curcio pitched a shutout, allowing 7 hits and walking nobody.
5/22 - 2-1 loss @ Tennesee - 5 hits, all singles. This is getting rediculous. Lowell Stang falls to 3-4 with a 2.15 ERA after allowing 2 ER in 8 innings. He struck out a career-high 11 Hounds.
5/23 - 8-7 loss @ New York - We finally score some runs, but now the pitching is gone. We hit 5 home runs; Horizon hit his 11th, Keith Tracey hit #4, Skip Burns his first, and Tally went deep twice to give him 4 on the season. Skip Burns allowed 6 ER on 7.1 innings.
5/24 - 2-1 loss @ New York (11 innings) - We lose by one for the umpteenth time this sim. Alphonse Nietz pitched 7 innings, allowing 1 ER on 7 hits. Adam Guerrero allowed a home run to the second batter he faced to take the loss.
5/25 - 5-1 WIN @ New York - Thom (2) and Claus (5) hit back-to-back 9th inning home runs to seal the victory, as Chris Kearns pitches a gem, allowing 1 unearned run in 8 innings of work.
5/26 - 6-1 WIN vs D.C. - Bick Horizon was 4-for-4 with a home run (12) and 4 RBI, and Franklyn Thom went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI as the Freedom goes out with a win. Chirs Curcio allowed 1 ER on 4 hits in his second straight complete game and third straight start in which he pitched at least 9 innings.

It was a rough sim, and it's frustrating that the offense has been iffy. But I knew it would be tough with so many games against good teams; NY and Ten are both 28-17 now. I'd like to get a little run going and get back to .500 next sim.

Burns wasn't sharp last sim, but I still have faith in him. If his ERA isn't down below 4.00 by the all-star break, I'll replace him with Clowers or even Moreno.

Pathetic. Horizon is on a hot streak, but besides that nobody is hitting. Tracey has one sim to get above .200 or he's heading to Allentown. I don't really understand this; everyone in my lineup except for Claus is rated 6 or better in hitting. M-Rod and Horizon are 8, Thom and Lust are 7, C-Mart, Tally, Tracey are 6. So, these guys are good enough to all hit in the .270's. I guess we've just been facing ferocious pitching all year. Sheesh.

Upcoming Games
We start with the final 3 games of our 4 games series vs DC (11-34, #24) before going to Connecticut (22-23, #16) for 3 games. Then we host New York (28-17, #4) for 3 more games before taking an off day. DC is 23rd in opponents average, Con is 17th and New York is 9th. Maybe we can get some hits this sim.
