My suggestions:
1. When viewing players of a certain position in team roster or through "view all players of league" in the almanac screen, allow users to choose either players who are only toggled to that primary position (the old way) or all players who can play that position (the new way). I would like to switch back to the old way many times when I compare all players who actually are playing a certain position. In other words, if I'm looking for which 1B has the highest HR rating, sometimes I want to see just 1B's and not OF's or C's who have the 1B rating.
2. Managers. We already use scouts and coaches, but not the most important of all - the manager. I am not talking about manager mode, but in solo or online leagues where manager mode is not used. I mentioned this 2 years ago (and again this April)
in this thread, but here's some highlights:
Give the manager unique ratings like motivation, game management, etc.
Give him characteristics, like how much players want to play hard for him, how he relies on his bullpen, how he views the running game, etc. Perhaps this could be the team strategy screen, where using a manager would lock some of these ratings within a certain level. For example, the "moneyball" managers don't like base stealing, so their stealing and hit&run tendencies would be set somwhere from 1-3.
Teams should bid on free agent managers too, and be able to hire/fire them during the season and let it have negative/positive impact on the team.
3. AI Trading Preference: Allow this to be set for each team, not just the league as a whole. For example, a rebuilding team would prefer prospects, while a team in the pennant race would want veterans.
4. HOF: Since it was mentioned to have players inducted with a team (something I wholly support), you could draw their logo from the almanac of the year they retired. Also, adding an optional photo would be excellent. And, allow the "year inducted" to be edited. I do not let the cpu induct my players, so if a guy retired, say, in 1940 and took a long time to be inducted, say, 1955, I want him to say "inducted in 1955" and be listed AFTER 1954, not up in 1941 (the year after he retired), which is how it currently is done.
5. I am also a big fan of having a HOF .HTML page, but maybe you should also consider a .HTML output for each team's "player tracker" too.
6. I see an option for allowing online leagues to vote for all-stars is listed (and rightfully so). Please make sure that in solo play, a user can select his own all-stars too. You should be taken to a screen where it asks you to pick players. Go through position by position. When it asks for your starting catcher, it should list all catchers from that league & you can pick who you want, etc. Users should also be allowed to input the # of all-stars for each league, say between 20-30 or so.
For that matter, if the cpu selects all-stars, could you make it a little more era-correct and not have relief pitchers elected in the deadball era? As a matter of fact, relievers shouldn't be elected until the modern era.
