I remember back when Earl Weaver was the king of baseball video games. I thought that having a computer-assigned lineup would be the absolute neatest thing in the world. I was in a pencil & paper baseball league, and plugged in the ratings for my team and let Earl make the call. The lineup I got was amazingly different from anything I'd tried, but I was about to face my league's ace of aces, Terry Errnt (named after the sound of a strikeout in Microleague), in the playoffs.

I decided to bite the bullet and I submitted the new lineup to my league's commish, dubbing it the "Errnt Killer" lineup. Low and behold, I won - it was a tight game, as I recall, but my light hitting CF that was put into the cleanup spot went deep for only the second time that year for a grand slam.

Go figure.

It was only after that I reliazed Earl did it off of stats (which were blank for the players I'd entered) and not off of ratings. I've always been a man of luck

My vote? Pick 'em out of a hat
