LA win streak reaches 17 games

LA Dodgers players had a team meeting following getting swept by the Phillies the weekend of Aug. 6-8.

"It was intense," said catcher Paul Lo Duca. "We got everything out and challenged one another to step up."

And step up the Dodgers have. Since the off day following that sweep, Los Angeles hasn't lost. That's 17 games in a row -- three wins at Cincinnati, three wins at Chicago, three wins over the defending champion Marlins, four wins over Atlanta and four wins over Montreal.

The hot streak has put the Dodgers back into the playoff chase. They still trail Arizona by 3.5 games but are tied with San Francisco atop the wild card standings. Their record has moved from 70-57 after being 53-57 going into that series in Cincy.

LA puts its streak on the line this weekend at Shea Stadium against the Mets. Then, another off day.
