One other thing that may have factored into it: at the end, it seems (according to Gammons) that LA was the only team in the running for Johnson. If that's the case, and SF and SD were no longer part of the picture, then LA refusing to do the deal is the same as SF and SD not getting him, which means no RJ in the West and LA gets to keep Werth and Penny.

One more thing, for what it's worth. Finley is in phenomenal shape for a guy his age. Plus, he's been a positive clubhouse presence his whole career, a real gamer. He may not replace what LoDuca meant, but he brings the right attitude.
