8th Inning Rallies Lead Astros to Sweep of Giants

Giants vs. Astros

Game 1: Jason Schmidt (NR) vs. Roy Oswalt (NR)

Jason Schmidt dominated the Astros through 7 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run, but Scott Eyre allowed 3 runs in the 8th, and the Astros escaped the game with a win, 4-3. Roy Oswalt went 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 of them earned.

Game 2: Jerome Williams (NR) vs. Andy Pettitte (NR)

In Andy Pettitte's debut as an Astro he did not dissapoint. He pitched 7.2 innings, scattering 7 hits and allowing 2 runs in a win over the Giants. The Astros scored 2 runs in the 8th to take the lead for good. Brad Ausmus shocked the hometown fans, going 4-4 with a double and 1 RBI.

Game 3: Roger Clemens (NR) vs. Kirk Reuter (NR)

Roger Clemens followed Andy Pettitte's debut well, going 7 and allowing 3 runs on his way to a no-decision. Giants pitcher Kirk Reuter left the game in the 2nd inning with pain in his shoulder, which an MRI revealed was a pulled rotator cuff muscle and will be out 8 weeks. The Astros found themselves down once again in the bottom of the 8th, 3-2, and rallied for 2 runs to regain the lead. Morgan Ensberg went 2-4 with 1 RBI.

My best and worst hitters seemed to switch places. Ausmus is hitting a scorching .571 while Lance Berkman is 0-10 with an OBP of .091. My team ERA is under 3 so far.
