IN THE NEWS: Due to the late Easter this year, games are played on Good Friday for the first time.

Friday, April 21st

Opening day brings some rust as the White Sox commit 3 errors, the Naps 5 to get the MLB record for errors in a game with 8 Manager Fielder Jones leads with 2 for the Pale Hose, Nap Lajoie leads with two for his self named team. Ed Walsh gets the win and Dummy Taylor the loss, despite the fact Walsh had 2 ERs and Taylor only one.

Saturday, April 22nd

IN THE NEWS: Having failed to give out rain checks the day before when a storm stopped the game, the Highlanders open the gates for free admission, and 30,000 people jam the park for the clash with Washington. Davey Dunkle pitches a 3 hitter but 4 bbs lead to 2 runs and Clark Griffith wins 2-1

Tuesday, April 25th

Good pitcher Jim St. Vrain on his 3rd team in 3 years, pitches a gem of a 3 hit whitewash against Cleveland and Dummy Taylor (0-2)

In Cincinnati, Noodles Hahn AND Bill DOnovan of Boston pitch 3 hitters, but an error by Cupid Childs leads to Steinfeldt scoring from 3rd in the 10th.

Wednesday, April 26th

Barney Dreyfuss, claiming the fans want to see more hitting, calls for abolishing the spitball. But it will remain legal until 1920.

Clark Griffith pitches a 3 hit shutout over Bill Dineen and the Pilgrims. Wid Conroy collects 2 rbis on 2 hits.

Friday, April 28th

[b]The longest game thus far in MLB history takes place between rivals Cincinnatti and Pittsburgh...it lasts 16 innings, Tommy Leach sets a new single Extra-Inning Game NL-Record for At-Bats with 8. Tom Daly sets a new single game NL-Record for Bases on Balls with 4! The Pirates finally win in the 16th when they tag Charlie Chech for 2 runs

Joe Corbett of the Cards scatters 2 hits and 4 BBs beating Togie Pittinger and the Phils 5-0.

Sunday, April 30th

IN THE NEWS: Over 30,000 attend a Sunday game between the Giants and Superbas at the Polo Grounds. To get around the law, fans make "contributions" for admission.

At Shreveport (Southern League), Harold Smith makes a strikeout-HR against Memphis, when the catcher misses the ball and it goes into the grandstand. No ground rules limit the runner's advance.

At Evansville, IN, future ML umpire Cy Rigler begins the practice of raising his right arm to indicate strikes, so that friends in the outfield can distinguish calls.

Thursday, May 11th

IN THE NEWS: During the Giants 7-2 victory over Philadelphia, Christy Mathewson is razzed by a teenager selling lemonade and responds by belting the boy in the teeth. The crowd turns ugly but the Giants emerge unscathed.

Friday, May 5th

Ed Walsh stays perfect with a 3-2 win over Eddie Plank and the A's, this moves the White Sox into 1st place.

Clark Griffith throws another 3 hit SHO against the Pilgrims like on April 26th. Griffith goes to 4-0 beating rookie Joseph Harris.

Tuesday, May 9th

Jack Powell of the Browns, pitches a 3 hit SHO against Win Mercer and the Tigers to win his 1st game of the year.

Noodles Hahn and Bill Donovan lock up in another pitcher's duel, this time Donovan comes out on top allowing only 2 hits to win 3-0.

Thursday, May 11th

Jim St. vrain pitches a 3 hit whitewash over poor Run Support (2.7) Dummy Taylor (1-5)

Monday, May 15th

IN THE NEWS: Banished yesterday for brawling with Pittsburgh manager Fred Clarke, John McGraw roams the Polo Grounds before today's game with the Pirates, shouting insults at Pirates owner Barney Dreyfuss. McGraw accuses him of controlling the NL umpires through league president Harry Pulliam and welching on gambling debts. McGraw is again ejected during the game. Dreyfuss will files a formal protest with the league about McGraw's behavior, his swearing, and his shouting "Hey, Barney" at Dreyfuss from the field. He also contends that the Giants manager offered to wager $10,000 that the Giants would win the game. McGraw responds to Dreyfuss' complaint by stating that NL President Pulliam could not "forget his former role as the secretary to Dreyfuss." A meeting of the Leagues directors results in a $150 fine and 15-day suspension for McGraw, but John Brush immediately gets a Superior Court injunction blocking the suspension and further hearings exonerate McGraw.

Tuesday, May 16th

Rube Waddell walks none, strikeouts 9 and allows 2 hits both by SS Sport McAllister. Rube Kisinger (1-2) gets the loss allowing 6 runs

In Philly, Kid Nichols (1-1) picked up from waivers from the Cardinals, walks 2 allows 2 hits ina 2-0 whitewash of the visiting Reds and rookie Oval Overall (1-4)

Wednesday, May 17th

IN THE NEWS: Waseda University of Tokyo defeats Los Angeles High School 5-3 in the first game of an American tour. It is the first baseball game ever played by Japanese outside Japan. Waseda starts a powerhouse tradition at Japan's Big Six universities that continues today.

Friday, May 19th

Christy Mathewson beats Amos Rusie of the Reds for the 5th straight time 9-2. Rusie has 301 wins and has lost 6 in a row this year. Big Six is now 5-3 on the year.


Monday, May 22nd

Honus Wagner goes 4-4 with 3 runs...but he commits 2 errors. However, the Phillies are worse, Red Dooin commits 3 throwing errors, McCormick has 2 and Courtney has 1 as the teams tie the record with 8...The Phillies with 6 errors have the MLB record for errors in a game

Tuesday, May 23rd

Cy Young allows 2 hits in the 9th to spoil his chance at a no hitter, but wins 2-0 over the Browns.

PHA pitcher Wendon Henley sets the AL longest losing streak at 10 games, dating back to last year, but will hold the record only for 2 more weeks as Cy Morgan passes him and he wins his next outing

Thursday, May 25th

Addie Joss (6-3) pitches a 3 hit SHO over Bill Donovan and the Braves, the Giants are now in sole possession of 1st place.

Friday, May 26th

Case Patten ties the MLB record with 13 BBs in one game against Boston, Patten will be traded back to his old team the Nationals next week.

The Giants Mike Donlin ties former teammates Charlie Babb's record with a 14 game streak scoring a run. He will not score tomorrow. Bobby Wallace holds the AL record with 11 set in 1903

Saturday, May 27th

Bill Donovan of Boston allows 2 hits and 2 BBs in the first 2 innings, then retires the Giants for 7 innings. Sam Leever walks 6 in the 2-0 loss. Donovan is the hero of his own game hitting a solo shot in the 3rd.

IN THE NEWS: Harry Pulliam levies a $150 fine and a 15-day suspension. John McGraw files for an injunction against the fine and suspension, which the judge eventually grants. On June 1st the NL board meets in Boston and clears McGraw of the Dreyfuss charges, then censures Barney Dreyfuss for engaging in a public altercation with McGraw. The "Hey, Barney" line will follow Dreyfuss for years.

Monday, May 29th

Nap Lajoie gets the cycle against the Browns in a 10-2 win. Of the 5 players to get the cycle, Nap has done it 2x. Honus Wagner was th elast to hit for the cycle on 9/8/1904

Cy Morgan of the Browns loses his 11th in a row to set the modern MLB record, he beats former Brown P Bill Rediy's streak of 10, set in 1902, the Browns inaugral season.
Morgan will be sent to the minors.

Saturday, June 10th

The Pirates win their 10th in a row to get within 4 of the Giants in a Vic Willis (7-3) 13-5 win over the Beaneaters.

Hooks Wiltse (8-0) and a 1.14 ERA beats the Cubs 4-3

Monday, June 12th

In their 1st meeting, Ed Walsh defeats Cy Young 2-1 to go to 10-3 on the year.

Sunday, June 18th

IN THE NEWS: The Giants beat Boston 4-3 (lose to Cincinnati IRL) when New York P Hooks Wiltse accidentally swallows a quid of chewing tobacco that upsets his stomach and his pitching. Hooks stays in the game and squueks by with a 4-3 win over newly acquired Bill Phyle

IN THE NEWS: A young woman sues the Giants for injury suffered when a foul ball hits her. Judge M. Laughlin rules that patrons attend baseball games at their own risk.

Thursday, June 22nd

The Tigers trade CF Jimmy Barrett, P Grant Thatcher for Scoops Carey and 10K.
Scoops is only hitting .264 with 16 rbis and 10 2bs...Carey has been top 3 in doubles and top 10 in rbis for the last 3 years. Little used Jimmy Barret is hitting only .203 but Nationals starter Charlie Jones is only hitting .185, although providing stellar defense.

Saturday, June 25th

The Giants lose to the Pirates and Hooks Wiltse 10 win streak comes to an end, the Giants have gone 14-6 in June and the Pirates 17-4 to make the NL race a little tighter but the Pirates are still 5 behind the Giants

Tuesday, June 26th

Rube wins only his 5th game but K's 15 Highlanders and beats Al Orth (8-1)

Weds, June 27th

Cy Young beats the Tigers with a 10 K 1 BB 2 hit shutout, his 12th win. The Pilgrims are now tied with the White Sox for the AL lead.

Thursday, June 29th

IN THE NEWS: At the Polo Grounds (Brooklyn IRL) , the Giants tally two (seven) runs in the first three innings off Ned Garvin (Mal Eason) to coast to an 4-2 (11–1) victory. Hooks Wilste pitches the CG to go to 11-1 (Christy Mathewson leaves after five innings of shutout ball, and Mal Eason tosses the last four innings.) while Moonlight Graham, in his only game in the majors, takes over in right field as a late inning replacement. Graham will have no at-bats but will be made famous in W.P. Kinsella's Field of Dreams.

Dummy Taylor is traded AGAIN, this time for Button Briggs as he heads to Chicago and the White Sox.

Cy Morgan wins his 1st game to stop his losing streak at 11
