in 1984 Alan Trammell was sitting on a 17-game hitting streak when Sparky Anderson gave him a day off to rest. In the 8th inning, Sparky brought Trammell into a tight game to pinch-hit. Afterward, Sparky said he didn't even realize Trammell had that hitting streak.
FWIW, Trammell doubled in his PH role.
