Paxson isn't some innocent victim in this whole shenanigan. He had just as much, if not more, to gain from voiding the option year, and he knew very well the possible consequences of taking such a risk. He tried to lock Boozer into a bargain basement deal, and avoid paying the big bucks when Boozer hit free agency next year. Essentially, this was his attempt at pulling a fast one on the league and having a limited free agency where only the Cavaliers could negotiate with Boozer. Boozer gave him a verbal agreement to this and it seemed all well. But it didn't. It backfired in Paxson's face, but I suppose that comes with territory of sidestepping the league. Boozer reneged on his word and he turns out to be made a big villian in all of this. Is he a trustworthy guy? Probably not, but that's business. When it comes to $28 million dollars, morality tends to go out the window.
