Three Mariners announce retirement

Seattle (AP)
April 2, 2004

Edgar Martinez, Pat Borders, and Terry Mullholland all announced their plans to retire after the season today. Martinez during his 16 year career with Seattle batted .315 with 297 homeruns and 1198 RBI. Most people in Seattle will be sad to see Edgar Martinez finally go after 16 great years with Seattle. Now the question that has come is will Edgar Martinez be in the Hall Of Fame? Some say Yes because of his great production. BUT others say no because he did not play a posistion in the field. But I say why did the MLB get the DH if a player who plays DH and nothing else can't make the Hall Of Fame. I guess we will leave this to the voters. Borders and Mullholland are both going to start the season in AAA Tacoma. In Borders 15 year career he batted .256 with 67 homeruns and 329 RBI. This is his 3rd year with Seattle. Mullholland in his 17 year career went 119-131 with an ERA if 4.37 ERA. He also had 1246 strikeouts 630 walks and he only had 5 saves.
