Hey now, let's not underestimate his ability to run after that groundball and beat the shortstop to it. <tongue in cheek>
On a more serious note, it may help with defending bunts and limiting wild pitches ... but more than likely it's of most use when tackling a batter from behind who's trying to charge the mound.
