It depends on the position, or at least that's how common wisdom has it. I don't know that any studies have been done. I think it's supposedly (as I've seen it):
1B - FA
2B - Range
3B - FA
SS - Range
LF - Even
CF - Range
RF - Even
In my opinion, range is a little more important. I seem to have more success with higher-range fielders in general. As I've said, I've never tested it.
