Time for more team write-ups
Alright we are almost 30% complete for the year and right now after 45 games Detroit is 1 game back (but in 3rd place) of first place Denver. In the Continental League the Las Vegas Stars enjoy a 5.5 game lead and the best record in the Association at 32-13. Now lets take a look at the CL's 2nd place team Louisville Sluggers as well as the FL's 4th place San Diego Breakers.
Louisville Sluggers
Louisville is 26-18 with a Fan Interest of 59 and a payroll of 84 million. So far this year, their power and their ability to draw walks has kept them in the position they are in. 36 y/o RF Dale Elia is leading the way for Louisville .391-11-25. Dale is a 3-time all-star and looking to make his 4th. Nathaniel Austin a young (25) 1B is also having a good start .323-9-32. 14-time All-star LF Eugene 'The Bull' Caplan is closing in on HR #500. He sits at 488 and so far has 10 this year to go with his .258 and 30 RBI. 4-time all-star Numbers Hopping is the ace of the staff. The 32-year old from Bakersfield, CA is 6-3, 1.82 and has 70 k's. Robert Stewart has a 5-0 record with a 2.80 ERA. Two people to keep an eye on in the minors are 25 year old SP Michael Oliver who is 5-4, 2.55 at (AAA) Frankfort. Also 23 year old 2B Jeromy Chesley .323-8-19 at (A) Goshen.
San Diego Breakers
San Diego is in 4th right now, 1 game over .500 (23-22). The Breakers have a very balanced team with a top 5 ranking in all categories on the roster report except for walks (10th) and opp avg (9th). They are led by future Hall-of-Famer Junior Austin. The 38 Year old out of Omaha has 7 Pitcher of the Year awards to his credit. The 10-time all-star is the all-time Wins leader at 302 and counting. So far this year his line reads, 5-1 2.13. Edwin Tunstall, 31, 4-2 2.90 and Eugene Alexander, 37, 6-1 3.19 are no slouches either. On the bats side of things, it all starts with 10 time all-star and an Outstanding Batter winner Tanner 'The Cat' Tartar .409-9-34. That average is 39 points higher than 2nd in the League. OF Steven Davis is also having a good year .325-5-32. The rest of the batters either have a decent average or show good power but no one else shows both. 3B William Moberg (19) .315-1-15 and 1B Norman Madeiros (22) .307-4-25 are two guys at Chula Vista (A) to keep an eye on.
In The Minors
Kalamazoo (AAA) - SP John Dice is making a strong push for a promotion. He is currently 7-2 1.69. If I move him up the question becomes who moves down. The two options are SP Blake Everett 3-5 5.40, and MR Lorenzo Whitehouse 1-3 8.10. And then if I move Blake down, who becomes the new starter John Dice or Nolan Peters. Also my scout seems to think that Augustin Spates, MR, 25, is ready for a promotion also. 1-1 3.77 in 14 innings. Gary Maillet is finding his niche at Kalamazoo 6-4 3.56. 2b-CF Joseph Paige (.314-9-26) is making a push for David Tuma's (.224-0-19) CF spot. C Mark Olivier (.320-9-26) is also one who is making the catchers nervous at Detroit.
Flint (AA) - IF-OF William Drysdale is looking for a promotion to AAA (.302-6-26). On the pitching side, phenom Clement Jarboe is 4-5 4.09 but the scout is pushing me to move the 22 year old to AAA. 2 27 year old pitchers Jordan Liggett (3-2 2.06) and Dean Cartagena (4-4 2.96) are also worthy of a promtion soon, even though I don't think they will ever be serviceable at the Bigs. 24 year old MR Jason Hood (1-1, 1 sv 1.80) is close to AAA also.
Livonia (A) - 5th round pick OF Leo Dexter is having a good year (.327-7-21). CF Robert Daughtrey (23), .279-5-24 is the only other starter having a decent year. First round pick LF John Levy is struggling at the moment .232-6-20. He is currently batting lead-off I will probably get him out of that role to get some pressure off of him. Robert Bonk, 24, is close to AA 7-3 2.33. 18 year old Kurt Lowe has nice numbers 5-4 3.72 but he just needs to work on his control 32-44 bb/k.
