Team Write-ups

Let's start in the Continental League with the 11-5 League Leading Las Vegas Stars. They have won 7 in a row. As stated before this team is 1-5 in Championship Series. They have an 85 million dollar payroll and a 99 for fan interest. They are in the top 3 in all pitching categories except for walks allowed where they are 14th. Their pitching staff is led by Jason Fisher a 31 year old, 4-time all-star who has an 88-50 career mark. He is currently 2-0 with a 1.65 which is among the leaders. So is his 30 strikeouts so far. Another star pitcher for the Stars is Timothy Phillip, 29 who leads the league in K's with 33. He is a 3-time all-star with a 99-48 career mark and no signs of slowing down. He is also a 3 time outstanding pitcher award winner. RF Tommy Madruga 28, is a 3 time all-star who leads the league in RBI with 16. He is currently batting .283 with 3 homers. Also leading the way is C Brandon Dufresne, 30 .290-4-15. 40 year old First Bsemen Justin Brinzendine is a career .317 batter and 7 time all star and he is leading the team with a .338 average so far. 'Dr. Destiny' Schirmer a 31 year old Shortstop is right behind him at .327.

Next up is the 2nd place team the Albuquerque Isotopes. They are currently 10-6 and 1 game back of the Stars. A 91 million dollar payroll which is 2nd highest and a fan interest of 81 is spurring on this club. Last year was their first ever playoff appearance and they won it all. Offensively the Isotopes are led by their 30 year old catcher, Fats Newby. Fats is 2nd in the league with 5 HR's and is batting .357. He is a 6-time all-star and an Isotope fan favorite after being picked up on waivers in 1924. RF Alan Wilkins, 33, .338-2-13 and 39 y/o SS Ronald Doiron .352-2-9 are also leading the charge for the best hitting team in the Association. 28 year old SP Brian Johnson has a career 62-29 record and is a 2-time all-star and is on track again with a 4-0 1.01 start. His right hand man James Howard, 37, 3-1 2.97 is helping pick up the slack as well.

Now in the Federal League, the Associations current best record at 13-2 is the New York Ambassadors. They have the top two HR hitters so far in 1B Joseph 'Automatic' Lee, 34, 333-6-10 and RF Leonard 'Dark Horse' Tooley, 33, .358-5-10. C, 38, Kirk Clabaugh also helps out as he is batting .353-2-9. They have 4 pitchers who are 2-0 but the best of the bunch seems to be 1-1 1.99, 30 year old Chris Cobb. 41 year old James Prue a 8 time all-star and 1 time pitching award winner is 2-0 3.46 and 31 year old George Kelley is 2-0 3.43 so far. It does not look like this pitching will hold up throughout the year. New York has an 83 for fan interest and also has a 91 million dollar payroll that ranks 3rd.

And now a Roughneck update. Currently 6-8 and 6 games back of New York. Leslie Aaron leads the team in batting and runs with .418-3-9 and 15 runs. The Ghoul is .361-1-6 with 6 steals. Trap Door is .283-3-14. The only disappointments so far are my starting catcher .224-0-3 and RF Archie Chapman .238-0-8. As far as pitching goes.... well as you know my starters are doing quite well. My bullpen, no so much. Leading the charge is Kevin Chambers who is 3-0 2.67 and leads the league in wins and k's with 35. Arthur Freshour is 0-3 with 3 sv and 5.58 ERA. I hope he starts to settle down. Lorenzo Whitehouse is another iffy pitcher who is 0-2 20.26 in 1.1 IP. Hopefully he gaines some confidence as he pitches more and more (yikes).

Down on the farm......
Kalamazoo (AAA) - The leading candidate for a call up is 31 year old catcher Mark Olivier .333-5-14. Also doing well is Joseph Paige 30 year old 2B .362-2-11, LF Buster Retzlaff, 27, .320-2-4 and LF, 34, Garry Branch .318-3-6. 2 pitchers worth monitoring 33, John Dice, 3-1 1.02 and Donald Gebhardt, 28, 2-1 1.19. Gary Maillet is 2-1 so far with 2.52 but has given up a lot of hits and walks for his innings. But so far AAA looks like a good start for him.

Flint (AA) - 22 year old Clement Jarboe is close to being ready for AAA according to the scout. Clement is 1-2 4.64 but has 30 hits allowed in 33 IP and a 7-29 BB/K ratio. Also pitching well is 27 year old Dean Cartagena 2-1 2.82. 10 HA in 22 IP. 28, LF, Jesse Gains .340-3-9 is leading the way.

Livonia (A) - 18 year old Kurt Lowe, is having another good season so far 2-1 2.91. As is 24, Rober Bonk 2-1 2.35. This years pitching draft class is starting slow with the exception of closer Edward Negri 0-1 4 sv, 1.69 and only 18 years old. No batter is really making a mark right now either. First round pick LF John Levy .246-1-7 and a 1-16 BB/K ratio needs some plate discipline if he wants to make something of himself.
