jim cully

Here is a file for Jim Cully, a 7'2" Irish giant. Cully fought twice in Ireland in 1948 (going 1-1) and was then brought to the US as the "Champion of Ireland." On these shores he scored a first round KO (possibly a fix) and was then KO'D in 3 by Earl "Red" Pierce, a cruiserweight sized heavy who went 4-3 in his career. After the Pierce debacle the NY Commission revoked Cully's license. In the August 1948 Ring, Nat Fleischer lamented Cully's presence in the fight game then, in classic Fleischer style, devoted a article, a full page photo spread, and the lead in an article about over-sized heavies to him.
