The worse team in the history of mankind was the infamous Cleveland Spiders of 1899, who went 20-134 (.130%). They did this after their owners, who also owned the St. Louis Perfectos (soon to be Cardinals), transfered all the average or better players from Cleveland to St. Louis. The worse team since is (obviously) the '62 Mets. Although one could make an argument for the 1916 Athletics (36-117), and the 1938-1942 Philadelphia Phillies, who lost at least 100 games for five straight seasons.
