From 1955 thru 1959 BoxRec. records would indicate Mazzola fought mainly as a Light Heavyweight. He compiled a 13-0-1,7KO record up thru July 1957. Then on the last day of July 1957 he fought Alessandro D'Ottavio for the then vacant Italian Light Heavyweight Title. D'Ottavio won a 12 round decision over Mazzola. These two fought a rematch in December of that year and this time, Mazzola was the winner by 12 round decision. These two then fought again in June 1958 for the Italian LHW Title with Mazzola successfully defending his title by 3rd round TKO.
Then in Sept. 1958 Mazzola fought Domenico Baccheschi for the Italian title and lost to Baccheschi by 11th round TKO. After a few months layoff, and an 8 round decision win over Jacques Bro, Mazzola then went after the European Light Heavyweight Title against Erich Schoppner. Schoppner was the winner by decision in the 15 round fight. A couple months after the Schoppner fight, Mazzola took one last stab at the Italian LHW Title but lost to Sante Amonti by 12 round decision.
After defeating Giulio Rinaldi a month after the Amonti fight, Mazzola then lost three straight fights to Mike Holt, Rinaldi and Paul Roux to finish out a busy 1959. Going into 1960 then, Mazzola took a turn with his career and moved up fighting mainly in the heavyweight rankings.
In 1960 he won fights over Mariano Echevarria and Federico FRiso, but lost fights to Gustav Scholz, Jose Gonzales and Plinio Scarabellin. That didn't stop Mazzola though from taking at shot at the Italian Heavyweight Title against Friso in May 1961. Mazzola won the fight and the title by 12 round decision. In Oct. 1961 he fought a 12 round draw with Franco Cavicchi and then own a 12 round decision rematch for the Italian HW Title over Friso in December. Then in early 1962 after winning a 5th round victory by DQ over Bert Whitehurst, Mazzola fought Cavicchi again for the Italian HW Title. This time Cavicchi was the victor by 12 round decision. At that time then Mazzola hung up the gloves.
