You are not missing anything. You want too much. Figure it out yourself as a manual is not a priority. It appears it would have required to much to add the manual at the time of release, or even a month or so after.
'They' (whoever they are) say that it will be done eventually. Until then 'they' recommend figuring it out yourself.
(Obviously you have hit a sore point with me and I do feel your pain).
