September 1932
To say baseball enjoyed two great pennant races this month would be an understatement. I will sum it up by saying that with just 3 days remaining in the season, both the AL and NL had two teams tied for the league lead. The Yankees and A's were tied and faced each other in the final series, while the Braves faced 3rd place Cincinnati and the Phillies played the below-.500, but steadily-improving Cubs.
The A's won the first two games of their series with the Yankees, clinching their first pennant in three seasons. The Phillies and Braves both went 2-1 in their series and finished in a dead heat. The two teams then had to play a single game to decide the pennant winner. The Phillies put up 8 runs in the first 5 innings against
Whiskey Allen, Jr., but the Braves scored 3 runs in the top of the 8th to narrow Philadelphia's lead to 9-7. However, the bottom of the Braves lineup was unable to get anything going in the 9th, and the Phillies return to the World Series for the 5th time in 7 years. This will also be the 3rd intracity matchup for the Phillies and A's. The Phillies won both of the first two.

World Series
There is certainly no love loss in the city of Philadelphia between the Phillies and A's. The Phillies have been king of the mountain for over 30 years, and the A's are still trying to shed their place as the team with the longest World Series-winning draught, which dates back to 1906.
The A's won just 88 games, but the AL was very talented and they got hot when it counted. They have the 3rd best team ERA (3.59) and 4th best team batting average (.286) in the majors. The Phillies have the best team ERA (3.51) in the majors, but they have just the 10th best batting average (.277) and scored just the 10th most runs.
My Prediction: The teams are very evenly matched, and both are playing well lately. The A's rotation has improved over the years, but they still are not as skilled as the Phillies' legendary front 3. The A's have a stronger lineup, while the Phillies too often relied on homeruns. They do, however, have one of the most intimidating offensive machines in major league history: catcher
Willard Schwarz, who hit his amazing 50th homerun on the final day of the season. I believe the A's are a more well-balanced team, and their pitching is finally better suited to match up with the Phillies. I predict the A's get the 26-year-old monkey off their back and win in 6 games.
