I've collected images of about a third of the players to appear in the 19th century, though quite a few are of execrable quality. I have no hopes of finding images of all of them.
Sabr.org has an ongoing project, of which you are well aware, of finding a photo of every player to appear in a major league since opening day 1871. At present, they've located all but a thousand of the 16,000+ big leaguers with the promise of an index being released to SABR members at some point. This is a most encouraging development.
