First of all, this post is not meant to take away anything from Pat Tillman, but I tend to agree with the opposition. When I read the first post on this thread, I immediately felt the same as Mudster. However, after reading the other comments, I have to agree. When it comes to war or defending our country, you cant single certain people out simply because they sacrificed more than others did.

I certainly think that Tillman should have his name somewhere in the HOF (maybe a plaque or something), but not on the same level as Walter Payton or Dick Butkus or Joe Montana. The minimum salary in the NFL these days in $450,000... that could make any man comfortable for the rest of his life. Im sure that more than a few football players have passed up money to go and fight in a war, but they shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame. You have to question what you're saying here...??? Would a football player worth $450,000 be just as eligible for the HOF as a million dollar player? They both gave up large chunks of money right? Also, like Erick said about the opposite approach.... What about the druggie who beats his wife and owes $300,000 in child support to some woman he screwed years ago? They are put in the HOF based on achievment in their respective sport, not anything else.

Now, if he used to play for the Minnesota Vikings... well, thats different.

Consider this: If some journeyman fighter signed a contract worth a million dollars to fight Oscar De La Hoya on PPV, but then pulled out of that contract to defend our country... should he be in the Boxing HOF?
