I've been suggesting a "Marquee" rating of some sort for awhile. It's kind of goofy, I know, but could just be another sort dimension to the game.

Despite some bad luck and bad years, a Ken Griffey Jr. is still a big name (and I suppose a big draw). Not sure how this could be implemented, but perhaps a guy with a "SuperStar" or something marquee is worth XX points of fan interest. The team that signs him or trades for him gets that value, where he old team loses it.
