In the highly anticipated rematch (well at least in my own head
) .... The bout was over before it even got started.
Martin danced away from Taylor most of the first round, being over cautious after Taylor's prediction of a first round KO. With about a 1:00 left in the round the referee took a point away from Taylor for a phantom low blow that never took place. No warnings, just a point deduction.
In Taylor's corner, there were frantic screams between the first and second round. Taylor's corner telling him that the ref wasn't gonna let him win the fight. Taylor took it to heart and dropped Martin on the first punch of the 2nd round. He deposited Martin on the mat again :47 seconds later. Martin struggled to his feet, only to be swarmed and dropped again. The referee was left with no choice but to stop the bout.
The surprising Taylor (rated only a 3) ran his record to 5-1 and avenged his lone lose.
When asked after the fight if they'd be a rubber match, Taylor laughed and said "I've beat his ass twice now, I've got nothing left for him."
