I cant say I would play out too many spring training games but I would love to use it for player evaluation purposes.

Here is one idea that is sort of a comprimise between those that want to have spring games to evaluate players and those that want to keep it relatively simple, like it is now...

Instead of the current system of allocating points for every player, how about creating some kind of system where playing time replaces points. For each position you allocate a certain percentage of playing time for each player. Once that is done, you 'run spring training' and statistics are generated. In addition to the allocation of playing time you also have an option to 'work on' one aspect of each player's skills, for instance a new position or baserunning etc.

In real life players dont 'progress' during spring training, its more that spring training is used to evaluate how a player has improved over the offseason.... So using this system, playing time allows your scouts to better asses a player's offseason progression. Basically if you dont give a guy any playing time in the spring you dont have the opportunity to see if he has improved. You might know general things like he is faster or stronger, but you arent sure how that translates into 'baseball' skills. You need to see him play.
