I also used to play every game, but now I play one game then sim the next two. If my lineup is all rested I will usually just "simulate day". If I have to juggle the lineup to work a backup in, I usually "Play" in order to get the lineup set up the way I want, then simulate inning by inning to complete the game. All playoffs and the last few series of the regular season (if they might make a difference) are played out.
