2)Just because a team gives a player a contract, doesn't mean that the players doesn't have to live up to his potential to forful the contract money. Wouldn't you be pissed off if you gave a player 7 million dollars to perform well. But only to see him suck and not even start...for 7 MILLION DOLLARS? What if, 3 years down the line...Peyton sucks, and becomes a below to average QB in the league(never will happen, but a good example for his recent 100 mill contract) your damn right if you said the colts would want to try and re-neg. his contract to better fit his CURRENT performance. Thats all sports is about, current performances. Older players usally always end up taking pay cuts...Frank Thomas did it in Baseball,Malone and Payton did in Basketball, just how it is.
3) when Cleveland gave him 7 million dollars are year contract,m they were DEFINTITLY in the state of mind that he would BE THE Starting QB. Not a 2nd string Qb that has and never will up to his potential,

1 > Couch's contract, like Hammer said, was not based on his performance, as he had no NFL experience at the time he signed his contract. He was based off the Brown's evaluation of his potential. If they misjudged his value, that is THEIR fault, not Tim's. If they willingly give him that money, that is THEIR fault, not Tim's. Should he have said no? Should he have said, 'I think I am only worth 2 million, not 7. Please adjust the contracts accordingly.'? Hell no. You take as much as someone is willing to give you. That's how America works. If someone overpays for your services, then its the person who is overpaying that is at fault for making bad financial decisions.
2 > Yes, I would be pissed if I gave someone 7 million dollars that didnt live up to that type of contract. Do you know who I would be pissed at though? Myself for making a poor decision. The accountability of a bad signing goes to the organization, not with the player who just signs the contract that is offered to him. I am not saying that Cleveland should not try to renogotiate the contract. I have never said that.
3 > That was a miscalculation on the Browns fault, its not Tim Couch's fault. Hell, I can sign Doug Johnson to a 10 year, 200 million dollar deal, proclaim him to be the franchise, and when he fails to be more than a below average QB, say it is HIS fault for not living up to expectations, and that it is HIS fault he makes so much money. Why would it be his fault when I am the one that made a poor judgement in signing him in the first place, and also made a poor judgement in giving him that much money in the first place? Doug Johnson is just being Doug Johnson. Just because I overpay him doesn't make him a better player, nor should I expect him to become a better player just because I pay him that much money.
