1. Do option years have to be enabled for 40-man rosters & waivers to work? Actually, 40-man rosters need to be enabled for minor league options to work. In the case of waivers, remember a waiver is also used to trade players after the trading deadline, not just for sending players to the minors who are out of options.
2. I can't really get into too much detail regarding waiver claims and online leagues, however I can point our that the waiver period is customizable. So, if you're league sims 7-15 games at a time, they can certainly extend the waiver period to something beyond that timeframe.
